Fine Art is the study and execution of visual art in all media.
Artists operate in a venerable tradition stretching thousands of
years. To study and practice Fine Art is therefore to declare that
you have something important and original to say in a universal
human discourse, and to find and strengthen your own voice in that
discourse.
AKTO's Fine Arts & Technology degree is a three-year
course of study resulting in a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Middlesex University.
It combines the teaching of timeless, fundamental principles with bold and extensive experimentation in diverse media and a strong technological element.
The main aim of the programme is to create graduates who will be
able to articulate visual language proficiently, and to produce an
original body of work. They should be able to interpret
aesthetically and conceptually the issues addressed in contemporary
art and at the same time to be active participants in the art
world. The programme also aims to provide students with the
theoretical and technical knowledge required of a visual artist and
the critical ability to understand the relationship between art and
technology.
The technological emphasis is a recognition of the communicative
power and ubiquitousness of digital and electronic media. Fine Arts
& Technology first and foremost prepares graduates to be
independently minded and creative artists. However, it also
provides them with a basis to perform specific and applied forms of
art. It thus prepares graduates as sketchers, illustrators,
painters, draftsmen, sculptors, muralists, etchers, printers, set
designers, photographers, video artists and technical drafters,
depending on their artistic and professional inclination.
AKTO's Fine Arts & Technology graduates are usually
self-employed artists, but also find employment in publishing,
theatre, film and television. They may also choose to work in a
variety of applied art forms such as graphic design, interior
design or product design.
